Clinch River —
Rushing along the mountainous terrain, the Clinch River is a great space to take kayaks and boats out for a spin. We love the views of our changing foliage in the spring and fall seasons. This river is a hub of biodiversity — it’s also the only place in the world that golden riffleshell mussels call home.
Burke’s Garden —
In the eastern part of Tazewell County, Burke’s Garden is a must-see. As one of our region’s most scenic spaces, the bowl-shaped landmark was created from a collapsed limestone dome. Here, we recommend that you cruise around the entire loop, pick up some snacks at one of our local general stores, and enjoy the views.
East River Mountain Trail —
Our scenery is one of our greatest attractions, but just wait until you see the sights hidden along our hiking trails. The East River Mountain Trail runs about 4.7 miles out and back. This trail is ranked moderately difficult. For a chance to see some wildlife, bring your binoculars!
Spirits of the Clinch —
When in Tazewell County, drink as the Tazewellians do: locally! Take your pick of beverages at any of our renowned local joints and enjoy the experience. Key in your establishment of choosing: Painted Peak Brewing Company, Plum Creek Winery, or Coal Town Taps.
Enjoy the Arts —
Into the arts scene? So are we. Take your pick of artisan crafts at any of our specialty stores and boutiques, enjoy the live music, and visit the Appalachian Arts Center, where some of Appalachia’s finest artists have their work on display (and available for purchase!).
Cavitt’s Creek/Lake Witten —
Love the Great Outdoors? Factor in some extra time in your schedule to visit Cavitt’s Creek Park! If you enjoy hiking, fishing and relaxing by the lake, make a pitstop at Lake Witten. Here, you can kick back and enjoy an afternoon of peace and quiet. Just don’t forget your fishing license!
