Spruce up your closet with these Spring 2021 styles!

With each new season comes new fashion trends. Now that the weather’s warming up here in Tazewell County, it’s time to ditch the parkas for a wardrobe refresh! So, whether you’re working from home or out and about, we have the deets to keep you up to speed on this year’s upcoming trends!

Every community needs a local fashionista, and lucky for Tazewell County, we have plenty! Throughout the county, you’ll find an abundance of boutiques and local fashion retailers who are always scouting out the trendiest styles. Here are a few of the items you can expect to see this spring, according to those who are in-the-know:

Mid-length, modest dresses – Amanda Elswick, owner of The Classy Closet in Richlands, shared some of her intel: “I have heard lots of Little House on the Prairie jokes this year in regards to fashion, but the idealism is conservative and classy! I like to think of it more as the “gardening” look!”

Cottage core, anyone? The loose, flowy styles, Amanda says, have been influenced by lifestyle changes that occurred during the coronavirus pandemic: “Everyone is enjoying outdoor activities a little more and it has inspired lots of these looks! Lots of Ash Green and Ash Blue (Baby Blues) with pops of yellow!”

Even if you think you can’t “pull off” the midi-length dresses, Amanda says she encourages everyone to give it a try — especially with a pair of wedges! She anticipates other styles like “off-the-shoulder tops and dresses, embroidery, puffy sleeves, bodysuits and bell bottoms are a few other trends” to be popular this spring and summer.

Amanda’s must-haves for spring:

“A few staple pieces I always recommend having for spring and summer [are] a denim jacket to throw over dresses or on chilly nights, fun earrings and a cute pair of go-to sandals!”

“While sometimes these trends might look outside of the normal for your wardrobe, I always encourage women to step outside of their comfort zone!” — Amanda Elswick, owner of The Classy Closet

Kimonos – Kimonos, says Nancy Grant, owner of Nancy’s Downtown Boutique, are in for spring 2021. Between the comfort of the flowy, lightweight material and wide range of patterns — or solids — to choose from, a kimono can upgrade any outfit in seconds.
