Fall Family Fun at the Crab Orchard Corn Maze and Pisgah Pumpkin Patch

For the past eight years, The Crab Orchard Corn Maze and Pisgah Pumpkin Patch has been an autumn staple in Tazewell County.

Every weekend in fall from mid-September to the end of October, families flock to the Crab Orchard Museum and Pioneer Park for the Crab Orchard Corn Maze and Pisgah Pumpkin Patch! This fun fall festival includes attractions for all ages, including pumpkin picking, wagon rides, and the much-anticipated corn maze.

Each year, the Crab Orchard Corn Maze features a new theme that honors Appalachian heritage. 2021’s theme is Piecing Together the Past: Appalachian Textiles, which honors the Appalachian tradition and art of quilting. The three and a half acre corn maze design for 2021 is a double-wedding ring quilt pattern.

But the corn maze design isn’t just meant to be challenging and unique — it’s also meant to be educational. Throughout the maze and other parts of the festival, visitors can expect to learn all about Appalachian heritage and culture.

If you’re brave, try an after dark flashlight tour of the maze! This exciting experience is only available after sunset on Fridays and Saturdays, so plan accordingly. Or, try your hand at Punkin’ Chuckin’ – a game where you sling-shot pumpkins at a target. Hit the target and you could win a prize.

Wagon rides are also available for those who prefer to sit back and enjoy the beautiful fall foliage while meandering through the museum grounds. Over 40 varieties of locally-grown pumpkins and gourds are available for picking in the patch, so be sure to pick one (or several) up while you’re there!

The corn maze and pumpkin patch is open Friday, September 17 until Sunday, October 31. Hours are Fridays from 5 pm to 10 pm, Saturdays from 10 am to 10 pm, and Sundays from 1 pm to dusk.
