Since it’s at a higher altitude, Burkes Garden’s leaves change earlier in the season than the rest of our county. If you’re driving in from Bluefield or Tazewell city, be prepared to make a bit of a drive, but it’s worth every mile! As you make your way toward this quiet community, you’ll be traveling on winding roads up and over the edge of the famous “bowl-shaped” valley to reach the town at the bottom.
Separated from distant city sounds and traffic, life moves at a slower pace here, and that’s just how the residents like it. Roll down your windows, take in the cool mountain air, and take a leisurely drive around the loop that outlines the valley to see the stunning foliage from every angle.
Known for its mystical waterfall-like fog that pours over the mountainside, East River Mountain in Bluefield, Virginia, is a sight to be seen year-round — but especially in the fall. Standing tall above Bluefield and its neighboring community of Bluefield, West Virginia, the mountain is covered in lush greenery that shifts into golden amber and burgundy in its peak season. Take a stroll through the historic downtown Bluefield, order a seasonal drink from The Grind, a local coffee shop, and enjoy the views!
Bonus points if you can catch the famous fog phenomenon on your visit!
While visiting downtown Tazewell, you’ll spot one of Tazewell County’s most famous spots: the Main Street mountain view.
