Have you heard the buzz yet? Tazewell County’s annual Winter Honey Festival is back this February! With the cancellation of last year’s event due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, we’ve waited patiently for the safe return of Tazewell County’s renowned festival, and we imagine you have, too.
February is our county’s time to shine as we host one-of-a-kind events in Richlands, Tazewell, Bluefield, Burkes Garden, and more. With activities scheduled throughout the entire month, this year’s Winter Honey Festival lineup combines more than two dozen educational activities, outdoor adventures, and indoor dining and crafting.
Enjoy a variety of honey-based culinary concoctions, shows, classes, book sales, community hikes, and more at this year’s Winter Honey Festival. It’s guaranteed to be an un-bee-leivably fun experience!
Ever wanted to try your hand at beekeeping? Now’s your chance! This month, you can partake in building bee hotels for our friendly neighborhood pollinators, as well as classes that teach attendees the basics of beekeeping, advanced beekeeping, seasonal bee-safe preparation tips, and ways we can all help keep bees healthy.
Looking for some hands-on? Say no more. Crafters and creatives can test their skills with group painting events and candle-making classes. You can pick up plenty of honey-themed culinary concoctions (and maybe even some new recipes!) at the honey-tasting events. Be sure to check out the leadership courses offered through the Appalachian Arts Center and our local schools, too!
If you’re feeling adventurous, head out with the group tours to hike, see local elk, take a birding basics class, or visit the ongoing Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition at the Historic Crab Orchard Museum. This exhibit will be closing on February 26, so if you’re interested in seeing “Crossroads: Change in Rural America,” mark your calendars so you don’t miss out.
In addition to daily and weekend events, various Tazewell County attractions will be offering discounts and exclusive deals in honor of our special celebration. Admission to the Historic Crab Orchard Museum will be 50% off through the end of the month. The Tazewell County Public Libraries will be offering Winter Honey Festival activity kits that highlight bees and their incredible contributions to our environment. The Chamber of Commerce’s Honey Hop, which recognizes member businesses who sell honey products, will also be ongoing.
