See the Bluefield Ridge Runners “play ball!”

There’s nothing more wholesome than enjoying America’s favorite pastime with the family, and there’s no greater place to be on a sultry summer night than Bowen Field in Bluefield, Virginia.

Under the sun and stadium lights from June through early August, the Bluefield Ridge Runners take on their Appalachian League rivals. Located at Peters Park, the Ridge Runners ballgames are a must-see for all ages.

Whether you’re a lifelong baseball fanatic, or looking for a new activity for your evening, or simply passing through the area, everyone can get their fill of excitement (and concessions, of course!). Sometimes, you can even catch a fireworks show after the final inning!

Some history behind the new name

Most recently known as home of the Bluefield Blue Jays, Bluefield’s minor league baseball history runs deep — by nearly a century. And last year, the city’s beloved sport entered a new chapter.

The Ridge Runners, named as a tribute to the region’s prominent railroad history and East River Mountain’s own “Ridge Runner” locomotive, are among the Appalachian League’s inaugural class of collegiate summer teams since the league restructured last year.

You may even have a chance to see the Ridge Runner in person! On weekends during the season, Lotito City Park often runs the original Ridge Runner train around the tracks. If you’re interested in seeing and riding the historic locomotive ahead of a game, be sure to check the Ridge Runners’ Facebook page for the park’s gameday Ridge Runner updates.
