With the weather warming up, it’s officially time to take advantage of Tazewell County’s recreational pursuits — and trust us, the options are unlimited! With five public parks scattered around the county, there are plenty of opportunities for outdoor pursuits in our corner of Appalachia.
Not only are our public parks family-friendly, they’re also free, which means you can visit and make priceless memories with your loved ones without spending a dime!
Known for its divine scenery and outdoor pursuits, Tazewell County embodies the best of what southern Virginia has to offer — and we invite you to experience it for yourself! Whether you’re planning your visit to one of our public parks or a Virginia native simply switching it up, there’s a little something for everyone in each of our public parks.
Lotito Park —
Located right along the Virginia-West Virginia line, Lotito Park is truly one-of-a-kind. Home to the Ridge Runner, one of the nation’s smallest interstate railroads, Lotito Park draws visitors of all ages with its playgrounds, picnic shelters, horse ring, hiking and biking trails, tennis and basketball courts and more. Come visit the best of both Bluefields!
Graham Recreational Park —
Looking for a mountainesque view without putting in the miles? Take a trip to Graham Recreational Park and look up. Whether you’re hitting a few baseballs on the field, walking a few laps around the grassy terrain or cheering on your team from the stands, Graham Recreational Park boasts dynamic views from all angles.
Lincolnshire Park —
On warm, sunny days, there’s no better place to be than the Lincolnshire Park pool. Bring a book to relax beside the water or go straight for the diving board. Bring your kayaks and paddle boards to the Lincolnshire Park lake and drift around as you take in the scenery. For a small fee, visitors may also be admitted to the Aqua Park at the lake. Either way, you’ll want to bring your swim attire and some sunscreen!
Cavitt’s Creek Park —
Searching for a serene escape? Cavitt’s Creek is the place for you! Wind down by the lake or camp out for the evening. The 54-acre lake offers endless opportunities for paddle boarding and kayaking. If you’re more comfortable lakeside, lounge on the grass, take a hike in the forest, or look for wildlife and seasonal flora. Be sure to return in the fall to check out the peak fall foliage, too!
Richlands Town Recreation —
There’s a little bit of everything at the Richlands Town Recreation Park. At the indoor basketball courts and soccer fields, where young athletes can test their skills, and when they’re finished, head over to the pool to wind down. The playground is a must for families with young children. With several jungle gyms spanning the park, it’s an exploration that could last for hours. If you’re into kayaking, bring yours along and enjoy the sights and sounds of Tazewell’s most serene areas.
So what are you waiting for? Lace up your hiking boots, host a COVID-19-friendly outdoor get-together, or help your little ones cross the monkey bars. You’ll make some lifelong memories in the process!
