Below, we’ve rounded up a list of must-visits to kick off the spring season.
Get back into nature with a walk around Lincolnshire Lake on one of the park’s many walking trails. Be sure to grab your sunscreen as this park offers softball fields, swimming pools, tennis courts and basketball courts, all within 10 minutes of downtown Tazewell. At the center of the park is Lincolnshire Lake, a great opportunity to fish, kayak and enjoy the Aqua Park’s inflatables.

From May to September each year, get an educational look at underground coal mining in southwest Virginia, at the Pocahontas Exhibition Coal Mine and Museum. The mine operated for 73 years and fueled the American Navy for a time with its 13-foot tall coal seam.
The mine is open seasonally, May through September with hours open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Lace up your hiking boots, pack your sleeping bag, and head to Cavitt’s Creek Park for your first camping trip of 2022. With a range of options for campers of all preference and experience, Cavitt’s Creek Park features both full service RV spaces and primitive sites for tent camping, as well as bath houses, picnic shelters and playground for the kids. For the avid fishermen and women, Cavitt’s Creek has a 54-acre lake with bass and trout fishing.
The Historic Crab orchard Museum and Pioneer Park is located in southwest Virginia and offers a permanent collection of artifacts, in addition to special exhibitions seasonally. Outside the museum itself, stroll through Pioneer Park and immerse yourself in a uniquely historical setting. Local’s tip: Exhibits are often changing at the Historic Crab Orchard Museum. If you see an exhibit you’re interested in, call ahead, check the dates, and plan accordingly.
